What does it take to become a hero, let alone a superhero? And who defines what each of that is?
Superman and Wonder Woman (though I didn't like her last movie) are always going to be on my list. But there is one superhero that most people (my age) probably forgot about; he's certainly not featured or even a guest star in the Justice League -- The Greatest American Hero. He was just an average school teacher who wanted to do good for his labeled out-of-control students. But he believed in them!
As the story goes, he was taking his students on a field trip (likened to the trips I take myself on in my everyday life). For some reason they were traveling through the desert (likened to the times I have dry spells) when their van broke down suddenly, for no apparent reason (likened to the times when I seemingly get stuck, wanting desperately to find my way forward). As he walked to try and find a service station, along came a car that almost ran him over (does this sound like one step forward, two steps backward; problems compounding). Wouldn't you know it, it was the same guy he and his students had gotten into an altercation with at a local diner earlier. And of course this guy's car stalled too (likened to the times when I'd meet that one person who at first seemed like the solution, but at closer inspection, brought up all kinds of issues). Then boom! Out of the sky came a flying saucer, from which the stranger's friend (who had recently died) appeared (likened to getting a profound message in a dream). Anyway, he was given a red superhero suit along with recorded instructions. But when the time came to try out his suit, he realized he had lost the instructions. He was then left to figure out how the suit worked (likened to MKMMA on break). He tried and tried. It was a child (could be likened to my inner child) who told him he had to take 3 giant steps and then jump; and it worked! He wasn't at Superman's powers and skills, nor did he need to be. He was really flying...at his own pace and power! He began to believe in himself. With persistent practice he started getting the hang of it and by the end of his trial period (yeah he was given one), he had done some amazing things.
Well I too am pretty sure I came into this life with a user's manual, which I thought I had lost early on. I've been blessed with some wonderful people in my life who've reminded me just how to access what I needed (my own powers - talents and gifts I brought into this world to share), when I needed it.
It's been four weeks since my last blog post. Plain and simple -- I haven't been keeping all my promises. As I watched myself from the background, I could see how easy it was for me, week after week, to skim over or completely eliminate one promise at a time. It seemed effortless as my mind created scenarios, using my own words back at me, such as "my own compass" or, "living life on my terms". And it so wanted to be okay as I kept only some of my promises to myself. Tricky, Tricky, Tricky! Old blue can be quite tricky.
IT WAS NOT OKAY! Keeping 3/4 or 1/2 of a promise is still a broken promise! But I know fully well that time passed cannot be regained, so I'm moving forward. Nearing now the end of week 13 of the Master Key Experience, I'm gaining my focus. And so with this -- picking myself up, getting into the ring (of my own mind), and pushing forward -- I define myself as a Superhero. An average, every day person, doing my best at doing good!
And though it doesn't look to others, or even to myself, like I'm flying through the galaxy, with flashing lights and applause, that's okay too.
Here's what I've picked up over the past weeks, with help from Scroll 3 - The Greatest Salesman
As Rastafarians would say "I'm keeping my heavens [mind] clear", and that brings a smile to my face.
I Persist in Love, right thoughts and right actions; I believe in myself, and I win!
I promise to keep my promises!
